ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP):Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have successfully thwarted a potential terror attack by seizing a cache of dangerous weapons and explosives in the Sangjani area.
According to an ICT police spokesperson, heightened security alerts have been in place due to the ongoing threat of terrorism.
He said Search operations were being conducted in view of the threat of terrorism in the gatherings. Considering these circumstances additional personnel were deployed in different areas of the city, he added.
He said during a search operation in Sangjani, police discovered a suspicious bag. Upon examination, the bag was found to contain destructive explosives, hand grenades, detonators, and other explosive materials, he said.
He said the Bomb Disposal Squad of ICT Police was immediately called to the scene and successfully neutralized the explosives.
Following the operation, the area was cordoned off, and a high alert has been issued throughout the city, he said adding that increased checks are now being conducted at all city entrances and exits as part of the enhanced security protocol.
Police officials have urged citizens to cooperate with the increased security measures and to report any suspicious activity by calling 15. He said search operations are ongoing, and law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the city.
